Why are they called poison rings? A very, very long time ago, the rings were used to store poison – at least, that's what is claimed. The rings originated in ancient India and the Far East and "drifted" to Europe. The ancient Romans indeed used the ring to store poison. When they could no longer escape a painful death, they could quickly commit suicide this way. Fortunately, the purpose of the rings changed to something more beautiful: during the Middle Ages, the rings were used to store holy relics, thus protecting the wearer of the ring. Later, they were also used to carry small portraits, notes, or, for example, a lock of a loved one's hair. Anyway, do with it what you will, but a piece of history of such a piece of jewelry is incredibly interesting!
