With silver jewellery, you choose durability; ideally, even your grandchildren should still be able to wear that one ring or necklace. But, of course, the intention is for your jewellery to remain beautiful. How do you care for your silver jewellery? Below are some tips to ensure your accessories survive and continue to shine.
Black tarnish
Some find it beautiful, others dreadful: after a while, black tarnish appears on your silver. This happens especially when you don't wear the jewellery, so frequent rotation prevents a lot of it! To ensure this tarnish doesn't damage the silver, it's best to polish your silver jewellery occasionally. The best way to do this is with a special silver polishing cloth: you can find one here for only €1,-
Dull shine
Does your jewellery look dull and have they lost their shine? (Gee, this sounds a bit like an Andrélon commercial) Even then, polishing helps! The shine of the jewellery is mainly affected by substances like cream or perfume, but also by the natural oils on your skin. Just polish it up, and that ring will be beautiful again! Use this special silver polishing cloth for it.
Proper storage
Not wearing your jewellery for a while? Store it properly in a closed box. Make sure the jewellery cannot rub against each other; silver is quite fragile and you want to prevent scratches, of course. It is also wise to take off your jewellery before showering, swimming, or bathing. The water, soap, and chlorine also affect your jewellery.
Tips at a glance:
- Polish your jewellery regularly with a silver polishing cloth
- Avoid contact with perfume, cream, or soap
- Store your jewellery in a closed box when not wearing it
- Take off your jewellery before showering, swimming, or bathing
I personally polish all my silver jewellery once a month in one go. Caring for your jewellery may take some time occasionally (especially with a large stash), but it is more than worth it. Your jewellery will stay beautiful longer, last longer, and you'll also see everything you own.
